Five steps to selecting the perfect window covering:
Have you ever looked for blinds and been confused by all the choice? Answer these five simple questions and you'll be amazed at how easy it is to have window coverings that are practical, beautiful and affordable.
- What are your needs for privacy?
This is important because your safety and security is directly related to what is on the windows. Blinds today range from sheer to opaque, with many degrees in between. Also your needs for privacy in the bedroom are likely different than in the dining room.
- What direction does the window face?
Is it a warm, sunny window? If it's south or west, you may have a room that heats up and your carpet and furniture may be fading as we speak. There are energy efficient blinds available that are gorgeous and keep your room cool while filtering the sunlight.
- What are your needs for light control?
When you think of the operating functions of window coverings, some go up and down but you can't really control the light. If this is an issue, you need a blind that has a vane, slat or louver, either in a vertical or horizontal. By simply rotating or tilting them, you can completely control the amount of light that enters a room.
- How do your windows open and how often do they open?
If you have a beautiful blind but if it doesn't fit the function of your window, it will be useless. For example, wood blinds might be great in some of your rooms, but on a sliding door that gets used a lot they wouldn't work. They are too heavy to lift and take up too much stacking space at the top of the door.
- What is your budget?
Let's be honest, window coverings are an investment in your home. There are blinds available to fit any budget but the difference between what you like and what you absolutely love might not be that much. Ask yourself this: "In five years, will I remember how much I paid for something or will I remember how much I love it?"
